Important Information
About Acacia
Acacia is a natural material. Each piece is unique and will vary slightly in appearance. Colour variations occasionally occur in Acacia throughout its life, however, this is a natural characteristic and not a product defect. All our Acacia products are treated with a varnish providing a good coating on the surface of the product, giving it a soft sheen finish and protecting it from moisture. In saying that, as it is a natural product, the Acacia should not be washed or be left wet for a long period of time.
DO NOT submerge Acacia in water. Only wipe with damp cloth then dry with a tea towel.
If your products do go mouldy, to clean use distilled vinegar to rub off the mould and leave it to sit for an hour. Wipe the area clean with water and allow the surface to dry.
Glass Care
Please fill jars with caution, the heavy impact of some ingredients especially 500g fettuccine/spaghetti could break the bottom of the jar. Be careful when using sharp or hard objects in the glass. The glass is fragile and it may crack upon impact. Glass jars are dishwasher safe (without the vinyl label and Acacia lid) but hand washing is recommended.
FAQ's
Is it safe to store all dry goods in glass containers?
Yes, most dry goods can be safely stored in glass jars. Glass is an inert material that won't leach chemicals into your food like some plastics can. It's also non-porous, so it won't absorb moisture or odours from other foods.
How do I clean and sterilise glass jars before using them?
Wash the jars thoroughly with hot, soapy water. Rinse them well and dry them completely. Let the glass containers cool completely before using them.
What size and type of glass jars should I use?
The size and type of glass containers you choose will depend on your needs and preferences. For try goods it is essential to have airtight containers to keep out any pests and keep the food fresher for longer. The best pantry storage containers are versatile allowing for a range of sizes to store different packet sizes.
How do I label my glass jars?
There are a few different ways to label your glass jars. You can use custom labels, sticker labels, or even write directly on the jars with a permanent marker (be mindful that this option will wear down over time as you pick up the glass containers). Be sure to include the name of the food and add a used by date sticker.
How long can I store dry goods in glass jars?
Most dry goods can be stored in glass jars for several months, or even years, if they are stored in a cool, dark place. However, it's always best to check the expiration date on the original packaging before transferring the food to a glass jar.
Here are some additional tips for storing dry goods in glass containers:
- Use airtight lids: This will help keep out moisture and pests.
- Fill the jars to the brim: This will help to displace air and prevent spoilage.
- Store the jars in a cool, dark place: This will help to prolong the shelf life of your food.
- Rotate your stock: Use the older items first and keep the newer items at the back of the pantry.
